A Book At Bedtime

2013               164cm x 114cm
All through my life I have spent hours with my nose in a book and when little (and not so little) wrapped up in a quilt while wrapped up in a book. These two phrases were the inspiration for this quilt.

Ideas of comfort, warmth, contentment and security mixed up with dreams and daydreams make up the “books” in this personal collection.
Twenty six separate open books with covers and pages are made using traditional bookbinding stitching. These are interspersed with a further twenty five books that remain closed.
The open pages hold scenes from my dreams, fantasies from childhood and imagined scenarios. The piece is embellished with photo transfer, found and made objects, printing and messages in bottles.
